Hello, I am new to the forum and looking to get in touch with any families who have relocated to Mazatlan. I have 3 kids who are 10,9,and 5 and we are considering moving to Mazatlan. My wife of 13 years is from Mazatlan so I have spent many days there and always have planned on retiring there when my youngest goes to college. Just recently I have been bouncing around the idea of moving there sooner. Anyone who can help with any advice or get me in touch with someone who can relate to my situation would be very appreciated.  Thanks, Steve

Hi there....Yours is a great request but it's probably not something you would find many responses to within this forum. This forum tends to cater to the snowbird or retired expat, so the age range would be 55+. However, there are many great Facebook groups that have a wonderful assortment of people from different walks of life and varying ages and circumstances that would be able to advise you. One that I can think of, off the top of my head is Mazatlan Expats under 50 ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/2182295838501621/ ). I know a couple of young families that have moved here and one of them started that group.
But there are also many other expat or "moving to Mexico" groups and forums within Facebook that are quite active. Good luck with your search!

@forumadmin Hi Ana, I have been doing research on moving to Mazatlan and also been thinking about my Mom who is 72 and trying to convince her to come with. She does not speak Spanish, and is concerned about the language barrier too. I remember one time I stayed in a condo building paradiso 1 or 2 that seemed to have a good amount of retirees from the U.S. and Canada. I have been thinking if I can find some information out where is a building or development that might be suitable for my Mom than I might have more luck convincing her. She is single and has a small dog. She pretty sticks close to home, and walks her dog a couple times a day. Maybe if you can point me in the right direction as far locations, amenities, facebook groups or other individuals that are similar in characteristics to my Mom that I can talk and try to see how my Mom might fit in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you think I should begin a new post or conversation to let other members contribute just let me know. Thanks again

@sberman

Hi there....Thanks for your post. You can tell your mum we have a very active community here in Mazatlan especially for someone over 60. Normally during the "snowbird" season there are many activities going on. I can't speak for this year because of the Covid19 situation, unfortunately. We have to wait and see for that. But in the meanwhile I would suggest that your mum join some of the expat Facebook groups (just do a search within Facebook using the key words "Mazatlan Expat"). Another great group is one I moderate called "Mazatlan Snowbird Activity Group" and if she scrolls through there she will see what we were up to last year.
We also have a thriving music, theatre and arts scene here. But if she simply wants peace and quiet, she can also get that too, depending on where she lives.

The condo you mentioned, Paradise Bay Grand is a great unit. I have a few friends that live there and they really like it. Speaking Spanish is not necessary because, as it is also a tourist town, many places speak some English. Even so, there are also Spanish classes offered during the year.

Here a link to my blog about areas to live in (my blog, LOL). https://thesolosnowbird.com/mazatlans-residential-areas/

Good Luck!

Ana
